A Muslim in a police van pleaded to observe his salah when the call for prayer was made. The request was granted and he was made the imam in a nearby makeshift mosque. He started by giving the impression that he is a slow prayer. However, in the last sujjud, he strategised and decieved the followers into staying endlessly in that posture. He quietly stood up from sujjud, picked his shoes, and ran away without completing the salah. Suppose you were one of the followers of this imam, what should be done?

A typical first row of a Jama'ah prayer comprises knowledgeable people (who know how to correct the imam in recitation or when he commits mistakes or forgetfulness). These knowledgeable people should stay immediately behind the imam and be ready to take over the imamship in any extreme emergency situation. In the case in question, one of the knowledgeable people in the first row would first raise his head to find out about the imam, if it is observed that the imam is in sujjud posture for unusually long time. Seeing that the imam has disappeared, he would then lead the people starting from where the imam stopped. This situation is similar to when the iman has fainted or incapacitated while leading the people. For this, some people would have to stop their salah to assist the imam while someone else steps into the imam's place to continue the salah. Allahu 'alam.
